Our office uses the newest type of clear braces – Clarity SL. The SL, stands for self-ligating, meaning no more tight ties are needed to hold the wire inside the braces and your teeth are free to move with very light forces. Clarity SL braces are the very first, totally clear type of brace system, to offer this new form of self-ligation technology (similar to the metal Damon braces that we have been using in our office for some time now). There is a false misconception that all braces and orthodontic treatments are the same – this is not true! With all the options available today, it is more important than ever to carefully select what type of braces and technology are used for your treatment. The older type of clear braces involved “tying-in” orthodontic wires with tight ties. This old form of treatment often requires removal of healthy teeth, resulting in a narrow smile and flat lips because the tight ties bind up the wire and prevent the teeth from moving efficiently. Heavy forces must be applied to overcome friction induced by these tight ties. The older form of clear braces are painful, slow down tooth movement, and result in prolonged treatment time. We place clear - Clarity SL - braces on the majority of our patient’s upper front teeth. Due to the technology involved in the fabrication of clear braces, they are more expensive than metal braces.
