Invisalign provides a new and exciting alternative to traditional braces. It involves a series of computer generated clear removable aligners used to straighten your teeth without metal wires or brackets. The convenience and ease of use of the Invisalign system has made it the choice of many adults, requiring minor to moderate tooth alignment and smile correction.
Why is this form of treatment popular for adults? Because there are no metal wires or braces to irritate your mouth and most importantly, people do not notice you are in treatment. They can not see the invisible aligners! Aligners can also be removed unlike braces, allowing you to brush and floss easier.
Interesting enough, our adult patients also comment on the fact that they tend to snack less, because they are wearing their aligners and actually lose weight during the process – two very good reasons to smile!
How does Invisalign work?
The first appointment involves taking very accurate impressions of your teeth. These impressions are then scanned by a computer, which produces a 3D virtual model of your teeth. Dr. McManaman then uses Invisalign software to position your teeth into their final smile position. Once Dr. McManaman is satisfied with the final smile aesthetics, a series of clear virtually invisible aligners are precision fabricated by computer technology. Patients are required to wear each set of invisible aligners for 2-4 weeks, while the aligners gradually move your teeth, with very light pressure, into a smile that you will love!
Dr. McManaman checks your progress every 6-8 weeks and gives you a few new invisible aligners every appointment. Aligners are typically worn 22 hours a day and can be removed to brush, floss or eat. Because Invisalign treatment is normally reserved for simpler cases, treatment is shorter than traditional braces, varying from 4-15 months depending on the complexity of the case.
