Dr. Porter attended Mount Allison University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree. He then attended Dalhousie University Dental School. Upon graduation, Dr. Porter practiced dentistry as part of the PEI Children’s Dental Program traveling in a mobile dental clinic to schools in the western part of Prince Edward Island. This wonderful experience planted the seeds for his return to his favourite province a few years later as the first island orthodontist.
Upon graduation from orthodontic training at the University of Manitoba he set up a part time orthodontic practice in Charlottetown and also taught orthodontics to undergraduate dental students at Dalhousie University Dental School and was the orthodontic consultant at the Cleft Palate Clinic at the IWK Children’s Hospital. Several years later, Dr. Porter moved to Prince Edward Island to practice orthodontics on a full time basis.
"Happy Smiling Faces" has been his career goal and life’s mission. Dr. Porter has always believed a team approach is necessary to meet patient’s needs and has, throughout his career, worked with and mentored young dentists regarding the orthodontic needs of their patients. Ongoing education in dental-facial abnormalities and malocclusions has allowed Dr. Porter to work closely with Maritime oral surgeons. Cleft lip and palate patients have been referred to his practice by dentists, pediatricians, oral surgeons and plastic surgeons.
In his spare time, Dr. Porter enjoys activities that include wine making, gardening, kayaking, traveling, and riding his Harley. Most importantly he enjoys spending time with family and friends.
Dr. Porter feels that joining the McManaman team is an exciting opportunity to continue providing quality orthodontic care to present and future patients.
