Dr. McManaman - Adult Orthodontics

At what age is a patient too old for orthodontics?

Patients who have teeth and healthy supporting structures are never too old for orthodontic therapy. Age is not a factor! We routinely provide treatment for patients who are as ‘young’ as 50-70 years old.

Why are adults seeking orthodontics
in increasing numbers?

More than 92% of adults agree that an attractive smile is an important social asset. Nearly 88% of adults say they remember someone with an especially attractive smile.

74% agree that an unattractive smile can hurt a person's chances for career success. Many adults are receiving orthodontic care that was not available to them as children. Adults realize that improving oral health and esthetics can also improve their personal and professional lives. Technical advances have also promoted adult therapy. Approximately 50% of our patients are adults today!

What are some of those advances?

Cosmetic alternatives such as clear braces and Invisalign (a product consisting of clear removable aligners) has increased adult acceptance of orthodontic treatment. In addition, the use of new hi-tech - titanium wires - results in little to no discomfort.

These low force titanium wires have a property called shape memory, which allows your teeth to be moved with light-biologically compatible forces, consistently between appointments. Both the overall treatment time and number of appointments has been drastically reduced and patients experience little to no discomfort at all during treatment. The treatment results that are attainable for adult orthodontic patients today are nothing short of amazing!

What does this mean to you? Orthodontic treatment has a negligible impact on both your professional and personal life!
